On August 21st, 2013 Blizzard announced the first official expansion to Diablo III Reaper of Souls. The expansion takes players into Westmarch as they combat the Angel of Death, Malthael.

Act V[edit]

The players battle through the city to stop Malthael and his band of demons, and eventually confront the witch Adria from the preivous Diablo games. When confronting Malthael, he destroys and consumes the Black Soulstone becoming the Prime Evil once more for the player to defeat. Joining the ranks of Sanctuary's heroes is the Crusader, a heavily armored melee class that specializes in healing and tanking. The Crusader can wield the unique Flail weapon, and uses Wrath as a resource, which is built and consumed by the Crusader's abilities.
Loot 2.0[edit]
Alongside the removal of the Auction House, Reaper of Souls features Loot 2.0, which significantly changes the way that loot is dropped. Instead of receiving a high number of completely randomized items, players will receive less items that have a higher chance of being meaningful upgrades. Legendary items have also been significantly altered, and now have more interesting, unique features.
Mystic[edit]
The Mystic is the latest addition to the crafting followers that Nephalem have access to. The Mystic can perform two functions: Enchanting and Transmogrification. Enchanting allows players to reroll a single stat on a piece of equipment, allowing for a certain amount of control over the stats of an item. Transmogrification allows players to reskin their gear to look like another item that they have once held.
Adventure Mode[edit]
Adventure Mode is a new form of gameplay in Reaper of Souls. Adventure Mode features two types of gameplay, Bounties and Nephalem Rifts. Bounties are exploration-based hunt-and-kill quests, while Nephalem Rifts are fast-paced dungeon races with tons of powerful monsters.
Difficulty Settings[edit]
A new difficulty system has been introduced with Reaper of Souls. Rather than having difficulty settings determine monster level, monsters now scale to player level, while the difficulty slider describes how difficult monsters will be to a player of any given level. The higher the difficulty setting, the greater the rewards.

Paragon 2.0[edit]
Reaper of Souls has also brought major changes to the Paragon system. The level cap for Paragon level has been removed, and now each Paragon level that a player has can be used to permanently increase the stats of all characters on the players' account.
